The façade, that space where architecture meets construction, meets reality.

The design of façades often breaks down at the interface between architecture and structural engineering.

I completed my architectural training in Spain, within a traditional system where architecture was still closely linked to engineering – at the time, the qualification was known as a ‘graduate engineer in architecture’. From an early age, I felt drawn to the technical side of design and naturally gravitated towards the intersection between the two disciplines.

Over time, it became clear to me that it is precisely this boundary – which is not clearly defined and is often overlooked – that is the point at which many projects come to a standstill.

Architects develop strong concepts and compelling ideas, yet these cannot always be translated into built reality with the same clarity. The final construction details, the choice of materials, the finishing touches – it is here that the original intention is often lost.

This is precisely where I have focused my work.

With a background in architecture, further studies including an MSc in Structural Engineering, and professional experience at an architectural practice in Germany, I later returned to the university to specialise specifically in façade engineering within the German system.

Today, I work as an independent consultant, helping to translate architectural intentions into precise, constructible façade systems – and ensuring that the original concept is realised right through to its final physical implementation.

Facade Design Services

As a facade consultant and designer, I work in accordance with the guidelines of the German AHO specialist commission (AHO Booklet 28).This reference standard defines the scope of services for facade consultants and provides the foundation for a comprehensive, strategic, and technical approach to facade projects.

Below is an overview of the key services derived from these guidelines:

  1. Strategic consulting in early design phases

👉 Objective: enabling well-informed decisions from the earliest stages of the design process

  1. Development of the facade concept

👉 Objective: combining architectural quality with technical feasibility

  1. Technical development and detailed design

👉 Objective: defining clear and buildable technical solutions

  1. Technical specifications

👉 Objective: establishing precise requirements for high-quality execution

  1. Support during tendering and procurement

👉 Objective: selecting the most suitable execution partners

  1. Technical review of submittals, calculations & shop drawings

👉 Objective: ensuring design quality prior to construction

  1. (Optional) Reports on site during the construction-phase.

👉 Objective: quality assurance through to project completion
